BPOE 271 (Oswego NY) Service Awards

Oswego Elks Lodge No.271 recently hosted an official visitation to the Ontario District by the NYS Elks Association President William J Reedy, Jr.  They held an awards dinner recognizing local Police and Sheriff Officer’s as well as Eagle Scout and Student of the Month honorees. Oswego Elks Lodge No.271 is proud and honored to hold this event each year and recognize all those who dedicate their lives to helping and protecting the citizens of their community. They are all heroes in our eyes and we thank them and their families for your dedication and service.

This year the event was dedicated to two additional people.  Michael Coad PER and R. Heath.

For many years Mike chaired this event.  It was the one event he was most proud of. No one realized how much work he put into organizing the event and I would like to thank him for what he did to make a success. His fellow Lodge Members and friends will miss him and we will write his virtues on the tablets of love and memory.

On January 28, 2017, the Oswego County Fire Service lost a brother firefighter who exemplified the “Volunteer Firefighter.” Over his 44 years in the fire service, Al touched generations of firefighters — both volunteer and career — and they are all better for it. Along the way, Al and his wife, Jeanette, raised three boys, who in turn gave him his pride and joy (four grandchildren and three step-grandchildren).

A special Lifetime Achievement award was presented to retired Sheriff Robert J. Lighthall, the Coordinator of Oswego County’s Stop DWI program. Robert Lighthall was Oswego Lodge’s nominee for the Enrique Camarena award for outstanding dedication to the advancement of a drug free society. The following

Derek Caramella was awarded Teen of the month and Ryan Tharrett was recognized for his Eagle Scout Award.

Service Awards were presented to the following:

Oswego City Police                         Sergeant Damian Waters

Oswego County Sheriff’s               Patrol Officer Joseph Harpst

SUNY Oswego Police                     Lieutenant Matthew Barbeau
