BPOE No. 830 (Fulton, NY) 63rd Annual May Day Celebration (2015-1)

Fulton Elks No. 830 recently held their 63rd annual May Day celebration.    A tradition that began in 1952 turned into an annual celebration that is especially promoted at every school in the district.  Sixty-three years later the Fulton Elks continue the tradition to honor America’s Junior Citizens for their accomplishments and to give fitting recognition of their service to the community, state and nation. A proclamation was received from Fulton Mayor Ronald L. Woodward, Sr. designating the first week of May as Elks Youth Week. This year the celebration included live entertainment, food, music, dancing, midway rides, concessions and games, activities and more on both days.  The bicycle giveaway, considered the highlight of the event, took place on Saturday. Every child in the Central Square, Fulton, Hannibal and Phoenix school district in grades K-6 was eligible to enter the bike raffle.  Drawings were held every hour on the hour and one girl and one boy from each grade received a new bicycle with a helmet.  Additional drawings were also held and ride tickets were given out to the children.  Several area businesses helped fund the event and the bicycles were sponsored by individuals as well as local businesses.  This year’s event was a great success and was well attended by the community.  The festival never fails to bring a smile to the faces of many boys and girls in the community.
